Spend Time with a Girl in Your Life

Ann Muno, Powerful Voices Associate Director, offers some suggestions for ways to support a girl in your life.

Take a Girl in Your Life on a Seattle Adventure

1. Take a Girl to a Game.
Seattle is home to amazing women's sports teams like Seattle Storm and University of Washington Women's Soccer. Nothing like seeing strong women playing their hearts out!

2. Take a girl to the new Center for Student Success.
The Center offers excellent workshops for students on timely planning for college. An early start on planning for school at the community college, university or vocational training level is essential these days.

3. Take a girl to the new Seattle Library.
Visit the new library and ask her to take you to her favorite section in the stacks. Talk to her about why she's passionate about this. Then accompany her to an activity that builds on her interests.

4. Take an internet field trip.
Help a girl sign up for an international penpal and talk to her about healthy internet relationships. Go to Kids Space Connection on-line to check out the possibilities.

5. Take a girl to a Community Service Day.
Many local nonprofit agencies works to address issues that impact girls such as homelessness, violence, racism and eating disorders. Girls who have an understanding of these issues become powerful advocates for other girls. Websites like United Way King County and Idealist.org offer detailed volunteer opportunities.
