Goals and Impact
Powerful Voices has taken great effort to synchronize program goals, activities,
outcomes and impact so that we can make the largest community contribution
possible.
Goals
Both of our programs share five common goals:
Personal Power: Develop girls’ personal strengths so they
become powerful advocates for themselves and others.
Safety: Prevent girls’ victimization and help girls to
transcend harmful conditions so they can live the lives they desire most.
Activism: Encourage girls to develop critical thinking, knowledge
and skills so they can act to make the world a better place.
Girl Culture: Transform the culture among girls so that every
girl is valued and respected.
Adult Guidance and Support: Ensure that girls experience positive
relationships with supportive adults so girls are inspired to become strong
women.
Impact
As we work daily on making these goals real for each of the girls we serve,
we keep in mind the end result we seek to accomplish. Ultimately, we must
improve the lives of adolescent girls in long-lasting ways.
Through our programs in Seattle public middle schools and in the juvenile
justice system:
Girls gain critical thinking skills.
Girls have positive social interactions with other girls and with
adults.
Girls learn important information about the joys of being a girl
and becoming a woman.
Girls feel safer in school and in the community.
Girls improve their self-esteem and gain confidence.
Girls have opportunities to express themselves.
Girls make connections to crucial services in our community.
Girls experience competence and achievement.
