The Grey Area
We know that there is no such thing as one Black girl perspective: that's why The Grey Area exists. In the words of our youth hosts, "We have different ideas and opinions like any other person in this world. We’re the place you go to when you're tired of hearing the same black and white stereotypes of what it is to be a Black girl in Seattle. We can coexist with different opinions and ideas of how the world works, but at the end of the day, respect lives at the core of this show."
S1 E 1 ON BEAUTY STANDARDS
In this episode, two of The Grey Area hosts, Maia and Mari, get real with everything that has to do with Black women and beauty standards. If you identify as a Black girl, this space is especially for you! Listen in as we share experiences related to stereotypes, white validation, media representation, body image, and confidence as it relates to Black girls.
S1 E2 THE BLUEPRINT: BLACK GIRLS IN EDUCATION
In this episode, Brooklyn, Mari, Faith, and Maia share their experiences as Black girls in Seattle's educational system. If you have attended private school, you'll definitely relate to our stories + woes of microaggressions, racism, and classmates!
S1 E3 LET’S QUESTION CHANGE
In this episode, Mari and Maia discuss the differences in how society views teenagers vs how they view themselves and their lives. They dive into the things they’re interested in as youth and how those things may not fit the stereotypical “American dream” (or how we mention it in the episode, “young desired mindset”). Within this episode, we also touch on the ups and downs and all arounds of not fitting in, growing in mindsets, and much more.
S1 E4 10 Questions with the Grey AreA
The Grey Area has expanded! Get to know the whole team.
S1 E5 Youth Activism
Listen-in on this live recording of The Grey Area's season finale! The team dove deep into the intricacies of youth activism and performative allyship. We were so honored to have you, our amazing community, be part of an episode for the first time and helping us celebrate a Season 1 well done!
